Hints and tips on internet shopping
Are you someone who:
- Shops online when you’re bored?
- Do you order lots intending to return what you don’t like and never do?
- Shop late at night because you can’t sleep?
Don’t worry you’re not alone. Lots of us shop this way, especially in 2020.
I’m here to help you make better buying choices, saving you time and money browsing and returning unwanted items.
With the internet at our fingertips on our smartphones and devices, we can shop 24/7. The question is should we? Do we need all the things we are ordering?
The answer to this is probably not. For some, shopping can be a way of rewarding themselves or avoiding doing other things. How many of us look up from our screens and say “Where has the time gone?”
Before you start
Take time to think about who you’re buying for. What are their interests? What do they like? Looking for gifts from that person’s point of view means you are much more likely to get the purchase right the first time. Next, you need to know your budget. Most of us will pay slightly more than we planned for the right purchase.
If you’re shopping for yourself
Make sure you know what you’re looking for, e.g. I need a new top or pair of jeans, don’t just look for an outfit. If you order just for an occasion, you will spend more money and only wear it once. You’ll have fun opening all the packages, but I wonder how many of them will you like? Are they the colour you expected? Do they fit? Will you get round to returning them?
My hints and tips
Always refine your search when shopping on any site by size, colour and price. This way you won’t spend time searching for just the right item only to find it out of stock in the size you want.
Look at the descriptions
If you couldn’t see the photo would you still want to buy the item from the description? Read reviews and take a balanced view of them.
You can’t always rely on photos to convey the touch and feel of the fabric in clothes, or how shoes are sized.
Don’t leave it to the last minute,
You’ll end up paying extra for delivery and it’s likely to be the wrong item as you will have made a snap decision.
After all we all want to make an informed choice and buy a gift that people will love and appreciate.
